One of the problematic topics in IR discourse is the role of just war theory and liberal internationalist thought which accept the need for war based on moral principle on the one hand, and on the other hand pacifist thought which is against to be involved militarily as a means resolving disputes. But it should be also acknowledged that when a state is not in the condition to protect its own people, then responsibility should be taken only by international community. Over recent years such reasoning has proved its importance in variety of cases like Kosovo and Somalia. From my point of view, today pacifist approach to the conflict situations seems unrealistic and morally unsustainable. The only thing which pacifist ideas might be acceptable is its approach that they advocate efforts to maintain peace and support disarmament.
